Superior, WI (NNCNOW.com) - The year 2019 may seem like a far off deadline, but for the City of Superior it is lurking right around the corner.
Come 2019 a contract between WLSSD and the City of Superior for the Landfill located on Moccasin Mike Road will run out.
The city says it needs to be prepared for higher costs, as much as $2 million from the General fund, should the contract not be renewed to keep the landfill open.
One solution being considered includes a monthly fee of $20 per trash container per household starting in 2014.
It's a discussion that Mayor Hagen admits is not a popular one.
"This is not a popular discussion. It will be a discussion of dismay. It will be a discussion that (will have) people asking all sorts of questions about and they should, but it's a discussion that has to take place. We see too much kicking the can down the road, both at the State and Federal level, and look where it's gotten us," Mayor Hagen said.
There will be public informational meetings held throughout the month of June at the Superior Public Library.
