One Escaped Inmate On the Loose

Superior, WI (Northland's NewsCenter) --- Tonight, Superior Police continue to search for one of three inmates who escaped from the Gordon Correctional Center Saturday.

Police have apprehended two inmates, Loren Ray Frikart, and Gary Gene Wells after all three fled into marsh filled tall grasses. Authorities are currently searching for Danny E. Davis who went missing in between N 54th and 55th Streets, to the west of Albany Avenue in Superior.

Two police dogs were brought in to aid in the search and lead the investigation north towards Tower Avenue. Police are also using heat imaging equipment to try and locate the inmate.

The search began this morning around 11:15 a.m. as two officers, one of which on a motorcycle, began their pursuit of the inmates into the marsh.

About fifteen squad cars headed to South Superior including Douglas County PD, Superior Police, and the DNR.

Danny E. Davis remains at large. If any citizen knows of his whereabouts they are asked to contact the Superior Police Department.

A fourth man is also being sought in what authorties believe is an unrelated incident.

Authorities say Caleb Smith left his work release site Saturday morning.

Wisconsin DOC officials also say Smith may be a suspect in an assault and vehicle theft that happened Saturday evening in Blaine Township in Wisconsin.

Authorities are looking for a 2005 Silver Chevrolet Truck with Wisconsin license plate number 197744.

Smith may have also stolen a knife off of the man who was assaulted.

He is considered armed and dangerous.
