Superior, WI (NNCNOW.com)--- A six week long prostitution sting has landed multiple people behind bars in Superior.

The Superior Police Department, along with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, Duluth Police Department and the Lake Superior Drug and Gang Task Force initiated the operation on October 18, targeting people who were posting ads online making themselves available for sex for hire services.

Two females, ages 35 and 22, followed through on the solicitations and arrived at the agreed upon location. Both were arrested for prostitution and charges have been referred to the Douglas County DA's office.

Additional informational developed from this operation that led to a search warrant and arrest of 39-year-old Charles David Sislo. Sislo has been charged with pandering/solicitation of prostitutes as well as possession of methamphetamine and various financial crime violations.

Eight men were arrested in a spinoff operation looking at those offering for sex for hire. Investigators created and posted as on Backpage.com offering pay for sex services. On November 26, four men, between the ages of 26 and 61, responded to the ad and showed up with payment and condoms. The men were arrested for patronizing/soliciting prostitutes.

On November 29, three more men, ranging from age 36 to 50 were arrested for the same thing. All cases have been referred to the Douglas County District Attorney Dan Blank for charges.

Deputy Chief Nicholas Alexander with the Superior Police Department says it's important to crack down on the human trafficking before it gets worse.

"People engaged in the act of prostitution are not doing it because they want to, but because its some sort of force situation, whether they have what we would call a pimp that's controlling them, for some reason something whether its financial or for sustenance like food or shelter or maybe their physically being harmed," said Deputy Chief Nicholas Alexander.

This is the first time Superior has conducted a sting like this.

Initial court appearances of all suspects are expected between now and January 10.

This is an ongoing investigation.
