Superior, WI (Northland’s NewsCenter) --- Northland bars might have some competition soon. Dozens of beer lovers learned to brew on Saturday.
It's National Teach a Friend to Homebrew Day, sponsored by the American Home Brewers Association.
At the Thirsty Pagan in Superior, The Northern Ale Stars demonstrated extract brewing, all-grain brewing and brew-in-a bag techniques.
Homebrew is primarily made from malt extract, malt, hops and water.
It takes about four weeks before you can drink the beer you make.
"There are not a lot of expenses or costs that are involved with getting into home brewing, so if you decide you don't want to do it, you don't have a big investment going on,” Steve Daiken, President of Northern Ale Stars said. “At the same time, you can get real geeky, and you can go as far as you want to."
The American Home Brewers association says about 750,000 Americans brew beer at home each year.
