Superior, WI (NNCNOW.com)-- The case against a prominent Eau Claire Doctor, charged with multiple counts of sexual assault against children who were former patients, has been turned over to a jury.

Doctor David Van De Loo, a longtime physician in the Mayo Clinic Health System, is facing sixteen felony charges relating to sexual assaults of patients.

Fifteen boys testified during the trial that Van De Loo sexually assaulted them during physical examinations.

The jury will have to decide whether Van De Loo's actions during the exams constituted sexual gratification or were simply part of the medical procedures.

The case was moved to Douglas County due to extensive media coverage in the Eau Claire area.

The jury went into deliberations just before 4 p.m. Tuesday.

After deliberating for around two hours, the jury was sent home early.

Deliberations will continue Wednesday morning.
