VIRGINIA, MN (Northland's NewsCenter)---Virginia's Police Chief Dana Waldron has officially agreed to resign from his post.
Waldron and the city negotiated a separation agreement and the City Council approved it in a closed session Friday evening.
As part of the agreement, Waldron will be paid $130,000.
He will also receive about $25,000 in accumulated benefits.
Mayor Steve Peterson says he believes the decision is in the best interest of all parties involved.
"We've spent a lot of money in attorney fees in the past with the hearing we had, and everything else," he said. "I think this is in the best interest of the city, the citizens, the police department, council, and Chief Waldron."
After serving on the Virginia Police Department for 33 years, Waldron's last day of work will be May, 25.
