Virginia, MN (NNCNOW.com) - The Virginia Rotary Club is promoting literacy in Iron Range schools by giving dictionaries to students.
The club paired with The Dictionary Project, a non–profit organization with a goal of providing dictionaries to every third grader in the United States.
The rotary club donated around 300 dictionaries to several Iron Range schools this year.
Experts say third grade is one of the most critical years for developing reading skills.
"We want to make sure that every child, advantaged or disadvantaged, has a chance at becoming a good reader, writer. It makes them a better citizen," said Rotary Club member, Linda Myklebust.
This is the Virginia Rotary Club's fifth year participating in the Dictionary Project.
They plan to continue in the future.
