VIRGINIA, MN (Northland's NewsCenter)---After nearly four years of planning, construction on a new Menards store will soon begin off of Highway 53 on the south side of Virginia.

Yesterday the Virginia City Council unanimously approved a development agreement with Menards.

The store is expected to be ready to open by next summer.

The city and the Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board put together $500,000 in grants to help attract the store.

City officials say Menards will cover any other costs that may stem from the development.

The new Menards is expected to provided 150 full time positions and as many as 50 seasonal or part time positions.

City Operations Director, John Tourville says the new business will do much more than provide jobs.

"We've already heard from some people representing family restaurants and other retailers that are interested in locating in Virginia and as close to the Menards or Target or the mall as possible," Tourville said.

The new Menards parking lot will include 436 parking spaces.
