Superior, WI (Northland's NewsCenter) --- The National Weather Service received a 911 call of a water spout on Lake Superior as well as a report of a funnel cloud over Barker's Island.

The calls came in around 11am Thursday morning.

The water spout was spotted about 2 miles from Park Point, but dissipated within a few minutes.

The funnel cloud over Barker's Island dissipated within a few minutes as well.

There are two kinds of water spouts: a fair weather water spout and a tornadic water spout. A fair weather water spout can form along the dark flat base of a line of developing cumulus clouds.

A tornadic water spout is a tornado that forms over water and can move from water to land.

The National Weather Service has not confirmed as to which water spout formed over Lake Superior.
