Why Mayor Ness says voting for Duluth is important for the city

Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) -- Duluth is still in the running to being named Best Town by Outside Magazine.

Duluth is up against Provo Utah in the final round and Duluth has about a 10,000 vote lead.

The bracket style competition has people tweeting, liking and voting on various social media about their favorite things to do outside in the city.

"Every season there is awesome stuff to do outside, whether it's running or biking, Nordic skiing, downhill skiing, kayaking. The possibilities are really endless," said Ericka Olin a Duluthian.

Now that Duluth has made it to the final round Duluth Mayor Don Ness says the recognition will put Duluth on the national map.

"We know that when we are in competition against other communities across the nation, and dealing with executives that may not know about Duluth, having these types of recognition show that Duluth is beyond the average city," said Ness.

Mayor Ness said the city has worked hard to extend the Lakewalk to Brighton Beach and the Munger Trail.

The city has also provides more than 100 miles of recreational trails.

He says offering these life style amenities will go a long way in attract people to Duluth.

"Claiming the rightful title of America's Outdoor Adventure City will help us in our ability to bring jobs and investment to our area," said Ness.

The bracket style competition has people tweeting, liking and voting on various social media.

"Everybody is just getting on board and posting videos and pictures comments and sharing videos that we put up so it's a great feeling," said Gene Shaw, Director of Public Relations for Visit Duluth.
