Michelle began her news career as a reporter and news anchor in 1977 working at KXGR FM Radio in Grand Rapids,Minnesota then on to KSTP AM Radio in the Twin Cities. Her first job in television news broadcasting was for KDLH TV in Duluth, Minnesota. Michelle moved up the ranks quickly at Channel three and ultimately was named the main news anchor. In 1990 Michelle joined the NBC 6 Team as reporter and anchor for the award-winning issues oriented magazine program News 6 Sunday. In less than a year, she was promoted to the position of primary anchor. Today she co-anchors Northland's NewsCenter on NBC 6 at 5, 6, and 10 p.m.

"My favorite parts of the job is meeting people who are making a positive difference in our community and covering stories that have the potential to change lives for the better." Michelle said.

Michelle specializes in issue-oriented in-depth reporting, showcased on Northland's NewsCenter. She also teams with other members of the NewsCenter team to produce documentaries airing outside of regular newscasts. One of her more recent documentaries featured Duluth Entrepreneur, Jeno Paulucci. Michelle has won journalism awards from multiple organizations for these projects, including the Associated Press, the Northwest Broadcast News Association, and the Radio and Television News Directors Association. Michelle has also won numerous awards for a two-year news and public affairs project aimed at helping orphans in Duluth's Sister City, Petrozavodsk, Russia. The project titled, "Our Sister's Children," raised thousands of dollars in aid and can be credited with a number of adoptions of Russian children. As part of this important "People to People" diplomatic effort, Michelle joined two official city delegations traveling to Russia. Following the first trip Michelle's news reports highlighted the needs of that country's orphans. Reports following her second trip, documented the use of Northland financial donations to improve living conditions of hundreds of Russian orphans. The Sister Cities Commission awarded Michelle a Special Achievement Award for her work on the project.

As part of her volunteer efforts, Michelle is involved with numerous educational and fundraising efforts on behalf of such organizations as the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, PAVSA, The Arthritis Foundation and The Alzheimer's Association.

Michelle writes and produces the on going Heart Healthy series of reports designed to help Northlanders reduce their personal risk factors for heart disease the number one killer of Americans.

In her spare time Michelle enjoys working out at the gym with her husband and visiting antique shops in search of Nemadji "Indian" Pottery. Nemadji is a popular collectible once produced in Moose Lake, Minnesota. Interestingly enough Michelle is recognized as a national expert on the pottery and has written several national magazine articles and a book for the education of other collectors. The Myth and Magic of Nemadji "Indian" Pottery History, Identification and Value Guide, is published by Left Hand Publishing Company of Moose Lake, Minnesota.

Michelle, husband Gary and their son Federick make their home in Moose Lake, Minnesota.
