11/19: Nielson Says UMD "Played Like Champions"
KBJR News 1
Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) head football coach Bob Nielson called it a disappointing end to the year for his team, but added that his team played like champions in a 57-55 triple overtime loss to Missouri Western State in the NCAA Division II tournament.
Senior quarterback Chase Vogler tripped on a potential game-tying two-point conversion in the third overtime, an image Nielson called a sad end to the career of one of the greatest playmakers he's ever coached.
Nielson made his comments while appearing on the weekly show, "Bulldog Country," which airs Friday and Saturday nights on the My 9 Sports Network.
The loss ends UMD's bid at a third NCAA Division II championship in the past five seasons, with the Bulldogs posting a (10-2) overall record this year.
