ABERDEEN, S.D. – The seventh-ranked St. Scholastica baseball team defeated the Presentation College Saints 3-1 in a seven-inning Upper Midwest Athletic Conference matchup Friday afternoon in Aberdeen.
With the win, the Saints garnered their 24th consecutive victory, the longest winning streak in school history. The streak surpasses the 2000 club’s mark of 23.
St. Scholastica ups their record to 31-3 and are 16-0 in the UMAC. Presentation is now 16-13 overall, and hold a 13-3 UMAC mark.
CSS scored first on a two-run home run by Tom Juberian (So.- Park Rapids, Minn.). Chad Peterson (Jr.- New Brighton, Minn./St. Anthony Village) chipped in with an RBI-single as well.
The Saints could only muster five hits offensively, and Sean Claugherty (Sr.- Oakdale, Minn./Tartan) had his 27-game hit streak snapped. The streak is the second longest in school history.
Steve Gerten (Sr.-West St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley) earned his victory on the mound, pitching six innings and allowing three PC hits. Gerten ups his record to 9-0. Jake Nystrom (Fr.-Fargo, N.D/North) earned his second save of the year.
A complete game wrap-up will be released when the statistics are made available.
Inclement weather halted the second end of the scheduled doubleheader, and the two teams will look to get two games in tomorrow morning starting at 10 a.m.
The Saints will then play fifth-ranked University of St. Thomas on Sunday in St. Paul on Sunday at 1 p.m.
