Mankato, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson came within nine yards of breaking the NFL single-season rushing record in 2012, and on Monday he told the Minneapolis Star Tribune he expects to break the all-time record before his career is over.
And he got specific.
Peterson told the Star Tribune he wants to break Emmitt Smith's record of 18,355 career rushing yards by week 16 of the 2017 season, which would require him to average 120.3 yards per contest from now until his target date.
That math is based on Peterson playing every game from now until week 16 of the 2017 season, with the per-game average going up if he were to miss any time for any reason.
