Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Area youth soccer players this weekend are receiving instruction from some of the best coaches in the world, that as instructors from West Ham United are in town for a three-day clinic in conjunction with the Duluth, Minn.-based Gitchi Gummi Soccer Club.

West Ham United plays in the English Premiership and has labeled itself "The Academy of Football," referring to the European sport of football known in the United States as soccer.

"It gives an insight into how it's done in the English Premier League and, really, around the world," West Ham United coach Ian Bishop said. "The Academy's structure is one of the best in the whole world, and they've proven that by players they've brought through. We just like coming to different places in the States and touching the lives of these kids."

Bishop also played for West Ham United for nine seasons, competing in more than 300 games in his time with the Hammers and serving 1990-92 as the club's captain.

More than 300 players, both from Gitchi Gummi and a club in Thunder Bay, are participating in the weekend camp. Coaches from the Duluth club are also taking part, observing the West Ham United coaches and the structure of the training sessions.
