Madison, WI (NNCNOW.com) --- Wisconsin senior running back Montee Ball has been named the winner of the 2012 Doak Walker Award, which is given out each year to the top Division I running back in the nation.

Ball rushed for 1,730 yards in 13 games this season, averaging 5.2 yards per carry and scoring 21 rushing touchdowns.

The Badgers' senior, who was a finalist for the award in 2011, broke two NCAA records this year and tied another.

He is now the all-time Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) leader with 81 total touchdowns in his career, and 74 rushing scores in college. Ball also tied the FBS mark for most career games with two or more scores, that record standing at 25.

Ball becomes the second Wisconsin player to win the Doak Walker Award, the first being Ron Dayne in 1999.
