Badgers Beat UMD, Up 1-0 in WCHA Playoffs
Madison, WI (NNCNOW.com) --- The Wisconsin men's hockey team beat the University of Minnesota-Duluth 3-1 on Friday night in the first game of a best-of-three series in the first round of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) playoffs.
Dan DeLisle scored his third goal of the season midway through the first period to give UMD a 1-0 lead, but that was the only shot the Bulldogs could get by Badgers goaltender Joel Rumpel, who finished with 26 saves.
Wisconsin got second period goals from Nic Kerdiles and John Ramage, with Mark Zengerle adding an empty-netter in the final minute of the third period to account for the 3-1 final.
Aaron Crandall made the start in UMD's goal and finished with 30 saves, that after riding a shutout streak of more than 120 minutes coming into the postseason.
Game two of the playoff series is set for 7:07 p.m. on Saturday at the Kohl Center in Madison, Wis., with that game being broadcast live in the Northland on the My 9 Sports Network.
