Carlton, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The Carlton volleyball team reached the MSHSL Class A tournament last season for the first time since 2004 but bowed out in the quarterfinals, and this year's Bulldogs say they want to do better than that this fall.

Carlton lost just one senior off last year's Section 7A championship team, so this year's captains say there's no reason for anyone to believe they can't better the 2013 team's finish.

"I want to go further than we did last year," senior outside hitter Grace Macor said. "I was a little disappointed with how we did down at state because I know we can do better. I've been looking at pictures of state from last year to try and motivate myself."

"Our whole team has been playing together since we were little," senior outside hitter Jessica Stanslaski said, "so we all know that's the goal. We're not going to settle for less this year."

The Bulldogs' first match of the 2014 season is scheduled for Aug. 26 on the road against Deer River.
