Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) men's hockey team took a one goal lead into the third period but Michigan Tech tied things up before both teams battled to a 1-1 overtime tie on Saturday night.
Joe Basaraba scored the lone goal of the night during a first period power play for the Bulldogs off of a rebound. It was Basaraba's 21st career goal and his sixth against the Huskies.
Michigan Tech outshot UMD 26-22 and got on the board thanks to Mike Neville's goal with 6:07 to play in regulation.
The Bulldogs stopped the Huskies on all five power-play attempts including a five-minute major after freshman Dominic Toninato received a game misconduct for contact to the headway.
The Bulldogs (1-0-1) travel to Colorado Spring, Colo. next Friday to take on Colorado College in their first National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) match-up.
