Carlton, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The Carlton volleyball team will make its first appearance in the state tournament on Thursday at the Xcel Energy Center since 2004, the last time the Bulldogs were represented in the big dance in any sport.

The Bulldogs swept McGregor on Saturday in the Section 7A Championship to advance to the state tournament. Head Coach Barb Soukkala said only three of the girls have ever been to the X before but knows the entire team is excited for the opportunity.

"I hope they still relaxed and not get overwhelmed with the atmosphere and what's going on," Soukkala said. "I told the girls the court is 30x30 here and is 30x30 down there, just play and block everything else out."

Carlton faces off against No. 2 seed Minneota on Thursday at 3 p.m. at the Xcel Energy Center.
