December 13, 2013 Updated Dec 17, 2013 at 2:59 PM CDT

Fuessen, Germany (NNCNOW.com) --- Chisholm, Minn. native John Shuster and his United States curling teammates are still alive to qualify for the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games, but the Americans will need two wins this weekend to secure their place next February.

Shuster's rink finished the Olympic Qualification Event round robin with a record of (5-2), good enough to tie for third place with Korea.

Those two teams will now play a tiebreaker match on Dec. 14, with the winner advancing to play on Dec. 15 the loser of a match between Germany and the Czech Republic.

The winner of the second match, as well as the winner of the match between Germany and the Czech Republic, will have earned one of two available spots at next year's Olympics.

Also on Shuster's team are Virginia, Minn. native Jeff Isaacson, Hibbing, Minn. native Jared Zezel, and Duluth, Minn. resident John Landsteiner.
