Piestany, Slovakia (NNCNOW.com) --- Cloquet, Minn. native and University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) men's hockey assistant coach Derek Plante coached the United States Under-18 select team to a 5-4 overtime win over Sweden on Sunday in the 2014 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament bronze medal game.

Dennis Yan scored the game-winning goal with less than a minute left in the overtime period, and goaltender Matthew Jurusik made 42 saves to earn the win in goal.

“After an emotional loss yesterday it was great for our guys to respond and beat a very good Swedish team to capture third place,” Plante told USA Hockey.

This is Plante's second straight year winning a medal with the United States at the Ivan Hlinka, having earned a silver medal in 2013 as an assistant coach.
