Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) volleyball team is the newest top-ranked team in the country, that according to the latest American Volleyball Coaches' Association (AVCA) Division II poll released on Monday.
The Bulldogs received 33 of a possible 48 first-place votes, earning the #1 spot for the first time since Oct. 31, 2011 and for the 10th time in program history.
Even with the top ranking, UMD head coach Jim Boos says the day-to-day attitude of his team won't change moving forward.
"I think, as a program, we put plenty of pressure on ourselves to perform and do things a certain way," Boos said, "so I think that pressure is always there for us.
UMD has started the 2013 season with an (8-0) record, including wins over three opponents ranked in the AVCA Division II poll. The team has its home opener on Sept. 17 against Michigan Tech, with that match to be broadcast locally on the My 9 Sports Network.
