Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) women's soccer team has been picked to finish second in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) preseason coaches' poll, which was released on Tuesday morning.
MSU-Mankato is the league favorite for 2014, with the Mavericks' seven first-place votes narrowly edging the six first-place votes of the Bulldogs.
UMD posted a conference record of (13-3-0) last season and qualified for the NCAA Division II tournament, making it into the Elite Eight of that national field.
"It doesn't matter if you lose one player or 10 players from that previous team," said head coach Greg Cane. "It changes your dynamic. It's a clean slate. Unfortunately, we can't take that and use that as an automatic qualifier for anything."
The Bulldogs are currently on the tail end of a 10-day trip to Europe and will open the 2014 season Sept. 5 against Southwest Baptist.
Below are listed the full results of the NSIC preseason coaches' poll, with a team's respective first-place votes in parentheses.
