Grand Rapids, MI (NNCNOW.com) --- Andrew MacWilliam and Danny Kristo scored third period goals on Friday night as the #2-seeded North Dakota men's hockey team beat #3-seeded Niagara in the first round of the NCAA Division I tournament.

Duluth, Minn. native and North Dakota junior defenseman Derek Forbort had an assist on the Kristo goal, which turned out to be the game winner. He also had a critical blocked shot in the final minute as Niagara was trying to find the equalizer.

Superior, Wis. native and Niagara freshman forward Dan Kolenda finished without a shot for the Purple Eagles, and he also had a plus-minus rating of -1.

North Dakota now advances to the West Regional championship game, which is set for 3:00 p.m. on March 30 in Grand Rapids, Mich.
