Esko, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- The Esko Little League and Softball Association (ELLSA) has been awarded a $10,000 grant from the Minnesota Twins Community Fund to help with repair of the organization's field, it was announced on Thursday.

The money comes from the fund's Twins Fields for Kids program and will be used to repair parts of the field that were destroyed in last June's flood, including the dugouts and the infield clay.

"We are so grateful to the Minnesota Twins and their willingness to get involved and support communities this way," Esko head baseball coach Ben Haugen said. "Together, we've turned things around for the kids in our community who want to play ball."

About 30 volunteers were already at work on September 29 repairing the field, which Haugen hopes will be ready for the spring high school baseball and softball seasons.

The field is also included in an operating levy on the ballot this November, asking voters to decide whether to approve a $2.7 million referendum to improve Esko's sports facilites.
