Esko, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The good news for the Esko girls' basketball team this week is that it's not that uncommon for the same school to win both a boys' and girls' state championship in the same year --- or at least it hasn't been recently.

Hopkins won both MSHSL Class AAA titles in 2011 and DeLaSalle won both MSHSL Class AAAA titles in both 2012 and 2013, so that feat has been accomplished in each of the past three seasons.

Just one week after the Esko boys' team won its first-ever state championship, then, the Eskomos girls' team will try to make it four straight years of one school earning a title sweep.

"We're the closest we've ever been in Esko basketball history, I think," senior Erika Shady said. "We get along well. We move the ball well. We know what each other are thinking on the court. It's pretty great."

Esko, making its first trip to the state tournament since 2007, will play New London-Spicer in the MSHSL Class AA quarterfinals at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Mariucci Arena in Minneapolis, Minn.
