St. Paul, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Former University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) forward Justin Fontaine has made the 23-man opening night roster of the Minnesota Wild, that after the team sent two players to the minors on Sunday as the final cuts of the preseason.

Head coach Mike Yeo then said on Monday after a team workout at AMSOIL Arena in Duluth, Minn. that he expects Fontaine to play in the season opener on the Wild's fourth line.

That would mark the NHL debut for Fontaine, who has spent all of his first two professional seasons in the American Hockey League (AHL). Last year, he totaled 23 goals and 33 assists to lead the Houston Aeros with 56 points in the regular season.

Fontaine played four seasons at UMD and graduated having totaled 62 goals and 102 assists, with his senior year being the NCAA Division I championship season of 2010-11.

Minnesota will open the regular season at home on Oct. 3 against Los Angeles, with that game set to start at 7:00 p.m. CT at the Xcel Energy Center.
