Detroit, MI (NNCNOW.com) --- Former Duluth Huskies pitcher Drew Smyly earned his first ever major league save on Friday night, throwing a scoreless four innings to help the Detroit Tigers to an 8-3 win over the New York Yankees.

Smyly didn't allow a hit in his four innings of work, striking out five New York hitters in the process.

Through two relief appearances this 2013 season, Smyly has a 3.38 earned run average while getting credit for a hold and a save for the Tigers.
