Ex-Twin Morneau in NL Home Run Derby

July 10, 2014 Updated Jul 10, 2014 at 6:28 PM CST

Denver, CO (NNCNOW.com) --- Former Minnesota Twins first baseman Justin Morneau got good news and bad news on Thursday --- the bad news was that he won't represent the National League in next week's 2014 MLB All-Star Game, but the good news was that he will be participating in the Home Run Derby.

Morneau, now with Colorado, first lost the Last Chance Vote to be part of the National League roster for the 2014 MLB All-Star Game, with Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo making a late charge to earn the last spot on the team.

The former Twins slugger was then informed, though, that he was still able to participate in All-Star weekend by filling the final roster spot on the National League's team for the Home Run Derby.

Morneau has 13 home runs so far this season for the Rockies and will be making his second-ever appearance in the Derby, winning the 2008 competition at Yankee Stadium.
