Spooner, WI (NNCNOW.com) --- Though the nationwide program has been discontinued, local sponsorship has allowed Spooner's "Exceptional Rodeo" to continue and enter its 20th year of existence this summer.

The "Exceptional Rodeo" allows children with special needs to participate every year before the regular rodeo begins. Their 45-minute program includes steer roping, steer wrestling, a goat relay, and an eight-second hand-rocked bull ride.

"My favorite part is the steer roping," said Ethan Jacobson, a three-year veteran of the "Exceptional Rodeo." "It's super fun."

The children are each partnered with cowboys and cowgirls, who help them through each of the events that make up the "Exceptional Rodeo," which happens every year on the Thursday night before the Spooner Rodeo.
