Ottawa, ON (Northland's NewsCenter) --- Former UMD defenseman Justin Faulk will participate in the hardest shot competition at this year's National Hockey League All-Star weekend, it was announced Friday.

The 19-year-old blueliner was one of 12 rookies invited to the annual event, and will skate Saturday night for Team Alfredsson.

Faulk has four goals and seven assists for the Carolina Hurricanes this season. He is also the NHL leader among rookie defenseman in ice time per game, skating over 22 minutes every time out for Carolina.

He signed his professional contract with the Hurricanes last spring after helping the Bulldogs to the team's first-ever NCAA national championship.

During that season, Faulk had eight goals and 25 assists while playing his only season with UMD.
