St. Paul, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- UMD's all-time leading rusher Isaac Odim will play this summer for the St. Paul Pioneers in the Northern Elite Football League (NEFL).

Odim participated over the weekend in a minicamp with the Pioneers, who play in the same league as the Twin Ports-based Lake Superior Rage.

The former Bulldogs owns 17 career and single-season school records and is also the program's only three-time All American.

He was signed by the NFL's San Diego Chargers in July 2011 and played for four weeks with the team in training camp, but he was cut before the regular season opener.

Odim carried the ball four times for six yards during his time with the Chargers, and he was also used occasionally on special teams.

The two-time NCAA national champion has been accepted to Duke for the fall of 2012, where he plans to earn his master's degree in biochemical engineering.
