Houston, TX (Northland's NewsCenter) --- Former University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) defenseman Mike Montgomery has been assigned to the Allen Americans of the Central Hockey League (CHL), it was announced on Thursday.
Montgomery had been in camp with the American Hockey League's(AHL) Houston Aeros, an affiliate of the Minnesota Wild. On Thursday, though, he was one of 12 players released as the team prepares for its October 13 opener.
The former Bulldogs captain played part of the 2011-12 season in Houston, totaling one goal and three assists in 35 games played.
Montgomery played four seasons at UMD, appearing in 132 games and finishing his collegiate career with four goals and 34 assists. He was the team's captain in the 2010-11 season, when the Bulldogs won the NCAA Division I championship.
