Minneapolis, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Josh Freeman will be the starting quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings on Oct. 21 as the team takes on the New York Giants, head coach Leslie Frazier officially announced on Wednesday morning. The announcement came as little surprise to folks following the team, which has started the season (1-4) while starting both Christian Ponder and Matt Cassel at quarterback. Freeman took practice reps with the first-team offense on Wednesday for the first time since signing with the team as a free agent earlier this month. Christian Ponder, who started the team's first three games, will serve as the backup against New York. Matt Cassel, who had started the team's last two games, will be the third-stringer. Frazier spoke with reporters about the decision following the team's morning practice, and Freeman is expected to address the issue this afternoon.
