Greyhounds' Kubek Wins State Title, Team Second

Biwabik, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Duluth East senior Anna Kubek won the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) nordic skiing individual championship on Thursday afternoon, finishing 23 seconds ahead of the runner-up at Giant's Ridge in Biwabik, Minn.

Kubek finished with a time of 33:58 in the 10-kilometer race of combined freestyle and classical skiing, earning her first individual state title for the Greyhounds.

Ely senior Amy Bianco also earned an individual medal, finishing in ninth place with a time of 35:10.

Duluth East also took second as a team at the MSHSL meet, with the Greyhounds' 362 points slightly bettered by the 365 of team champion Wayzata.

Kubek was joined on the second p[lace team by Sophie Schuder, Carolyn Lucca, Ashley Herman, Sarah Curran, Katie Allen, and Haley Bock.
