Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Alex Toscano scored the game-winning goal midway through the third period on Thursday night as the Duluth East boys' hockey team earned a 4-3 win over Grand Rapids to claim the program's fifth-straight Section 7AA championship.
Jack Kolar, Phil Beaulieu, and Jack Forbort were the other goal scorers for the Greyhounds, with Dylan Parker making 24 saves in the winning effort.
Reid Holum scored two goals in the loss for the Thunderhawks, with the other tally coming from senior defenseman and Minnesota Mr. Hockey finalist Jake Bischoff.
Duluth East will be making its 20th overall appearance at the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) Class AA tournament and will do so riding a 16-game winning streak.
Seeding for the state tournament will come sometime this weekend, with the Class AA quarterfinals set for March 7 at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn.
