Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- After starting the Section 7A playoffs as the No. 6 seed, the Hermantown boys' soccer team went on to beat the top three seeds en route to clinching their first Class A state tournament berth since finishing a runner-up in 2009.

The Hawks will face No. 2 seed Waconia on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. at Chisago Lakes High School. Head coach Dave Thompson said even as the tournament approaches, his team's approach won't change.

"I believe I'm going to approach this just like we've done this, one game at a time," said Thompson. "These kids are amazing to coach. They're just a tremendous team, and they surprise me all the time."
