Hibbing, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Hibbing, Minn. native Nick DeCenzo has committed over the weekend to play Division I college hockey at the United States Military Academy (Army), he confirmed to NNCNOW.com via Twitter on Monday afternoon.
"I'm ecstatic, thankful, and blessed to announce that I've committed to play Division 1 hockey for the Army Black Knights," DeCenzo tweeted.
The news became public sometime late Sunday night and was confirmed to NNCNOW.com earlier on Monday by Decenzo's older brother, Anthony.
"Huge congratulations to my little brother @DeCenzo16 who committed to play his collegiate hockey career at Army," Anthony DeCenzo, a forward at the University of Vermont, wrote on his Twitter account.
Nick DeCenzo is in the midst of his third season in the North American Hockey League (NAHL) and second with the Brookings Blizzard, having totaled seven goals and 12 assists through 27 games this year.
In his entire junior hockey career, DeCenzo has amassed 24 goals and 46 assists across 142 games with Brookings and Alexandria.
He graduated from Hibbing High School in 2011, with his senior season being the Bluejackets' first trip to the state tournament since 2004.
News of DeCenzo's commitment was first reported on Sunday night by Mike McMahon, a senior writer at College Hockey News.
