Duluth, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- Northland high school hockey fans have, for years, wanted to see a matchup of the Hermantown Hawks and the Duluth East Greyhounds.

That's not exactly what the 2012 Clyde Iron Cup will provide, but it's close.

Former Hermantown players Jared Thomas and Jared Kolquist will be in Duluth playing for Sioux City of the United States Hockey League (USHL), and former Duluth East forward Trevor Olson will be playing with Green Bay.

"We never got to play them in a normal season, so it's kind of like showing an East versus Hermantown kind of thing," Olson said. "That should be really fun."

Sioux City and Green Bay will be in Duluth along with Lincoln and Tri-City, all of the USHL, for a four-game exhibition on September 14 and 15 at the Heritage Sports Center.

While these games are exhibitions and will not count toward the teams' overall records, the Northland players say some pride will be on the line for them.

"There's always that Hermantown-East rivalry," Kolquist said. "We haven't played each other since bantams, so it'll be exciting to get back on the ice with Trevor and Green Bay. There will be a little rivalry for sure."

While these three haven't played each other in more than four years, they have definitely seen their fair share of one another on the ice.

"We're good friends, and our parents are good friends," Thomas said. "It'll be fun playing against him finally, the first time since peewees or bantams."

Sioux City will take on Green Bay at 8:00 p.m. on September 14, with that game being shown on live television in the Northland on the My 9 Sports Network.

Lincoln and Tri-City will play in the other game on September 14 at 3:00 p.m., with the winners advancing to the championship on September 15 at 3:00 p.m.
