Superior, WI (NNCNOW.com) --- The UW-Superior softball team has been picked to finish eighth this season in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) preseason poll of the league's head coaches and sports information directors.

The Yellowjackets also received a first-place vote in the poll, one of only three teams in the WIAC to do so. The other two were preseason favorite UW-Whitewater and the runner-up favorite UW-Eau Claire.

UW-Superior posted a (12-20) record in 2012 and a mark of (5-11) within the conference, but they do return senior Ashley Martin after she missed all of last year with an injury.

Martin led the team in 2011 with a .444 batting average and a .661 slugging percentage, totaling 55 hits, 10 doubles, and seven triples.

UW-Superior is (1-4) thus far in the 2013 season and will next be in action March 15-22 when they take part in the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Fla.
