Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- When he was just three-years-old, Chip Lemon fell in love with the game of hockey.

"I'm the old school. We were outside basically, you get done with school, and you'd be outside skating and skate from three until ten at night, sitting in a snow bank until your Mom and Dad picked you up and go home."

Since those early days on the ice, Lemon has found another place to call home- patrolling Minnesota's roads.

"Twenty years I've been with the state patrol."

It was an easy decision for Lemon who followed his brother and cousin's footsteps into law enforcement.

"It was one of the best things that happened just with the experiences and everything I've had that I couldn't have gotten anywhere else than with the state patrol," said Lemon.

After a short stint in the Twin Cities, Lemon moved back to Duluth in 1998. With him, he brought an idea to marry his two biggest loves: hockey and law enforcement.

"I loved the comradery when I was down there playing with them so it was natural to do a team up here."

And so was born the "Lake Superior Lawmen," a hockey team made up of patrolmen and Duluth policemen.

"Just a bunch of guys from work that got together and everyone likes hockey," said Tim Jazdzewski of Duluth P.D. "We went in got in a couple of tournaments, and it developed into us getting our own tournament."

The annual tournament is not only a lot of fun for the guys it also raises money for the Courage Center in Duluth.

Besides serving as a fundraiser, Lemon says being on the ice is a great outlet.

"Officers that are involved in shootings are going through all of these emotions and all of these things in their head regardless if it was a clear justified shoot or not. The hockey for us is a great stress reliever that we can use to get out and just let the job go for awhile."

That's exactly why Lemon has no plans to hang up his skates anytime soon.

"I plan on still playing until basically my hips or my body gives out on me."
