Minneapolis, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- For the fourth time in his career, Joe Mauer will be the starting catcher in the 2013 All-Star game while Twins closer Glen Perkins will make his first appearance at Citi Field on July 16.

Mauer, who has been selected six times now, was voted in by fans while Perkins was chosen to replace injured White Sox reliever Jesse Crain.

Both of the Twins selections are Minnesota natives with Mauer originally from St. Paul and Perkins a native of Stillwater, Minn.

The two first met during little league and played together after both were selected to the Metro East Lions All-Star team as high school seniors in '01.

The 30-year-old Mauer is hitting .314 with eight homers, 25 doubles, 30 RBIs, and 49 runs in 80 games.

Perkins has registered 20 saves in 22 opportunities with 1.93 ERA and 45 strikeouts in 32 2/3 innings.
