Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Matt McNeely made 28 saves on Friday night to earn his first collegiate shutout as the University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) men's hockey team earned a 1-0 win over Michigan Tech at AMSOIL Arena. McNeely was making his fifth straight start for the Bulldogs, going (2-2-0) across those past four contests. Joe Basaraba scored his sixth goal of the season late in the first period, and UMD played a strong defensive game from then on to make it stand as the game-winner. UMD junior and Duluth, Minn. native Max Tardy was credited with the lone assist on Basaraba's goal, significant because it marks Tardy's first point of the year for the Bulldogs. Game two of this series is set for 7:07 p.m. on Saturday at AMSOIL Arena, and that game can be seen on live television in the Northland on the My 9 Sports Network.
