Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The Minnesota Wild will hold two practices early next week at AMSOIL Arena in Duluth, Minn. ahead of the start of the 2013-14 NHL regular season, arena officials confirmed to NNCNOW.com on Tuesday morning.
The team will hold practices on Monday and Tuesday, with Tuesday's session being open to the public. Doors will open at 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday, with the practice session set to start at 10:00 a.m.
Minnesota assistant coach Darby Hendrickson owns a cabin on Island Lake, and he was identified by University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) hockey staff as one of the catalysts behind the trip.
"Coach [Scott] Sandelin had talked to Coach [Mike] Yeo a couple times," UMD's director of hockey operations Christian Koelling said, "and Coach [Derek] Plante and myself had been bugging Darby a little bit. Then one night, he sent me a text that said they were coming up."
This marks the second time in three years the Wild has visited Duluth and skated at AMSOIL Arena, the last coming in October 2011 when the team was here for a full week of practices.
