Colorado Springs, CO (Northland's NewsCenter) --- The new National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC), which will begin play in the 2013-2014 season, announced Tuesday that it will be headquartered in Colorado Springs.
The conference's six founding members are UMD, North Dakota, Denver, Nebraska-Omaha, Colorado College, and Miami University.
Colorado Springs is also home to the United States Olympic Committee, the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association, and 21 national sports governing bodies.
“We’re very happy that the National Collegiate Hockey Conference has chosen to join USA Hockey and the entire amateur sports community by headquartering in Colorado Springs,” said USA Hockey Executive Director Dave Ogrean. “We look forward to working with the conference office and the six outstanding founding school progams that continue to develop the game at the college level.”
Now with a headquarters, the NCHC still needs a commissioner, a process for evaluating additional members, and a possible venue for the conference's postseason tournament.
