Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) assistant hockey coach Derek Plante will serve as an assistant for the USA Under-18 team at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament, which starts Saturday.

Plante and Team USA will play an exhibition game on Saturday against the Czech Republic before their first game on Monday.

It's an experience that the Cloquet, Minn. native knows is once in a lifetime.

"I'm fired up," Plante said. "When they gave me the call, I had butterflies for the first time in quite a while. It's kind of a big tournament. Canada sends their best, Russia sends their best, Sweden sends their best players so it's a big deal."

"The kids we have on our team are all fighting to get drafted high, and we've only won one medal there so we hopefully we can go over there and bring back the gold."
