Proctor, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Proctor, Minn. native Ryan Krajewski was on a plane Wednesday afternoon bound for Finland and the 2013 World Deaf Hockey Championships, which are set to start this Saturday.

Krajewski has played the past 10 years with the United States national team, winning a gold medal at the 2007 Deaflympics.

"It's the ultimate honor to do something like that," Krajewski said of playing on Team USA. "For most of us hearing-impaired guys, we're patriotic like everyone else but because of our hearing, we were ruled out for most professions and those kinds of things.

"This is just one way we can put on the red, white, and blue to say, 'Yeah, we're part of that, too,'" Krajewski continued.

The World Deaf Hockey Championships are being played this year in Vantaa, Finland, with the gold medal game set for April 6.
