Northfield, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- Proctor senior runner Matt Welch won the MSHSL Class A boys' cross country state championship on Saturday morning, finishing in a time of 15:34 at St. Olaf College.
Welch finished 12 seconds ahead of the Class A runner-up to win his first state title, that being Foley senior Charlie Lawrence in a time of 15:46. Waseca sophomore Shane Streich was the third place finisher, completing the race in 15:52.
Esko was the top Northland team in the Class A boys' race, coming in sixth and led individually by a 29th place finish by freshman Ben Mattinen in 16:58.
