Minneapolis, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- It's the matchup Moose Lake-Willow River has wanted all year, and now the Rebels will get their wish as they will face Caledonia in the MSHSL Class AA football championship.
Caledonia was the team to knock off Moose Lake-Willow River in last year's title game, marking the only blemish on the Rebels' (13-1) record that season.
Michael Pender scored two first half touchdowns on Thursday afternoon as Moose Lake-Willow River surged to a 27-20 win over Jackson County Central in the semifinal round.
The Rebels also got a strong performance from Jake Disterhaupt, who finished with 105 yards and a score on the ground combined with 68 receiving yards in the winning effort.
Moose Lake-Willow River is unbeaten again at (13-0) heading into the state championship game, which is set for 1:00 p.m. November 23 at Mall of America Field in Minneapolis, Minn.
Jake Disterhaupt turned in an excellent all-around performance with 247 all-purpose yards - 105 rushing, 68 receiving, and 74 on kickoff returns. Defensively he had three tackles, a forced fumble, and a pass breakup.
